Benito Núñez Quintanilla

Secretary-General for Air and Maritime Transport of the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility of Spain

Benito Núñez Quintanilla is the Secretary-General for Air and Maritime Transport at the Spanish Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility. He is a Naval and Oceanic Engineer from the Polytechnic University of Madrid and has been a civil servant in the Spanish State Corps of Naval Engineers since 2004. Benito Núñez has worked as naval inspector in the Maritime Captaincy of Burela between 2004 and 2005. From 2005 to 2009 he held the positions of Director of the Provincial Service in Albacete, Deputy Director attached to the General Secretary and Vocal Advisor in the Support Unit of the General State Civil Servant Mutual Society. In 2009 he was appointed Deputy Director General for Economic-Administrative Affairs of the Infrastructure and Equipment Management of the Ministry of Culture and in 2010 as advisor to the Cabinet of the First Vice-President of the Government. Since November 2010 he worked as a vocal advisor-chief of the Support Unit of the Directorate General for Merchant Shipping and since 2014 he served as alternate representative of Spain in the Administrative Board of the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA). In 2018 he was appointed Director General of the Merchant Marine, a position he held until his appointment as Secretary-General for Air and Maritime Transport.
